Whether Turtles Need to Hibernate

When Do Turtles Start to Hibernate

As hibernation approaches, watch the temperatures in the weather forecast. When the temperature consistently stays below 15℃ (59°F), that is the time for the turtle to prepare for hibernation. Turtle Hibernation Methods

Currently, common turtle hibernation methods include shallow water hibernation, water-absorbent resin hibernation, coconut coir hibernation, soil hibernation, moss hibernation, and overwintering with heating, among others. Choose a suitable hibernation method for your turtle based on the conditions in your region. If the low temperature drops below 0 degrees (32°F), there is a risk of the turtle freezing to death, and it is recommended to overwinter with heating instead.

Hibernation Precautions
