The Correct Way to Handle White and Turbid Water

We need to discuss two different situations.

White Water in an Empty Tank

When there is nothing in the aquarium, not even a single fish, and the water becomes turbid. This situation usually occurs because the substrate and filter media have not been cleaned properly, causing a large number of particles to be suspended in the water, making it turbid and white.

Solution:

• Let the water stand for a while, or
• Use a filter to filter the water for two days, and the water will naturally become clear.

White Water After Keeping Fish

If the water in your aquarium suddenly turns white after you have already kept fish. This is usually because your nitrification system has not been fully established, leading to turbid water quality.

Solution:

• Patiently wait for the nitrification system to gradually establish itself, which usually takes 21 days to a month.
• During the waiting period, reduce the amount and frequency of feeding to alleviate the workload of the nitrification system.
• About a month later, when the nitrification system is fully established, the water quality will naturally become clear.
